Skagway, Alaska – A Small Town With Charm

With less than a thousand population in Skagway, you’re not going to expect a big town.  It was pretty small but it has its own charms.  There is one main street called State St. with a handful of other main streets.  A cruise ship that docks there brings the population up about 300%!

It is pretty easy to get in as the port is just at the end of the street.  From almost anywhere in the town you will see the ships towering over so you’ll never get lost.  The town has their heritage and they are proud to show it.  There were shops show casing hand carved goods like ivory, Woolly Mammoth Tusks, jewelry, wood carvings of eagles and stuffed wildlife (taxidermy).  There was even a store with lots of different flavoured popcorn and smores.

It was a pretty grey looking day which is probably pretty normal for being a northern town with mountain ranges within steps. On a clear day, it would probably be a thing of beauty looking at those mountains.

Thanks
