The Westin Palace Hotel – Milan, Italy – Centrally Located In The City
This was our second time in Milan but first at The Westin Palace, Milan. The first time we stayed at The Palazzo Matteotti Autograph Collection Milan, however, since this review, the Palazzo Matteotti is no longer under the Marriott umbrella.
We took the train from Venice where we stayed at The St. Regis Venice. We were wondering if we would be let down after the absolutely beautiful St. Regis. But first, a bit more on The Westin Palace Milan. We loved Milan that last time we were here. As Milan was on the way to Geneva, we stopped here for three nights. We were particularly interested in visiting the new Starbucks Roastery as this was the latest one that Starbucks has made. With only six in the world (at the time of this review), we were excited to see this one which we will post a review on soon.
As we arrived at Milano Centrale Railway Station, we tried to navigate our way to the hotel on foot, Google Maps showed it to be a short 950 meters away. Yeah, it was doable, but not enjoyable. We lugged our luggage along in the midday heat but we got there.

The lobby was well appointed but the check-in desk was a bit small and there was a bit of a wait. In fact, there wasn’t many times when we walked by the check-in desk that there wasn’t a wait. We believe this is something that they can improve on instead of letting customers stand in line for 10-15 minutes.

Alrighty then, onto our room. Having come from The St. Regis Venice, this room was definitely an older type of feel, especially the darker themed bathroom. However, we were very delighted to see that they also have Acqua di Parma amenities. Once you enter the room, there is a decent sized hallway with the bathroom on the right and closets on the left. Walking past the bathroom are full sized mirrors before entering the main room.

The desk was immediately to the right with the rest of the room being appointed with a TV, bed with nightstands, and two chairs with a small table. Under the TV was a hutch that holds the mini fridge.

Being in Milan, we wouldn’t spend a huge amount of time at the hotel as it wasn’t the closest to the main areas like the Duomo (about 1.2 km away). We did walk there everyday which took us about 15 minutes or so. However, there is an absolutely beautiful spot up top to have dinner called The Terrazza PanEVO. We booked a dinner there, however, the next night the weather really changed and it was just that night only! Unfortunately, it got so cold and windy that we couldn’t eat up there and enjoy the beautiful views.

We had to go down into the main PanEVO Restaurant, however, the staff did insist that we order from the Terrazza PanEVO menu which we agreed!

The hotel from the outside may look a bit dated but they kept the inside well appointed with a very luxurious feel. We would definitely stay here again as it was right in between the Central Station and the core of Milan. Either way was about a 15 minute walk which was completely fine for us. If you want to hop on the Metro, the station is also just about 100-150 meters away from the hotel. It was unfortunate that we couldn’t sit outside on the terrace for dinner but no one controls mother nature.

Milan is one of our favourite cities to visit and a hop away from Geneva, Zurich or within Italy, you can get to Turin, Florence or Venice easily by train. The front desk were courteous but more businesslike and as mentioned above, there were often long waits. The restaurant staff were really friendly and made sure that our meal was as perfect as it could get. We look forward to coming back to Milan!
