Sir Victor Hotel, a Member of Design Hotels – Barcelona, Spain – Strange Room Layout but Great Location
We love coming back to Barcelona, it’s probably been our forth time here. The city is a major port of call for cruise ships which is the reason why we came here to spend a couple of nights before embarking on the Sun Princess.
The hotel is located just off the main street of Pg. de Gracia, which is the main shopping street of the city. You’ll find all your designer name brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, Prada, etc on this street.

The Room
Let’s jump straight to the room. As mentioned in our title, the room layout for 607 was a bit strange. Once you enter the room, the water closet (toilet) is immediately to your right. The rest of the room is front and centre. Once you walk to the end of the room, turn right and you enter the bathroom with the sinks, closets and the tub/shower. So when we say strange, once you go to the washroom, you have to walk around to the other end of the room to go to the bathroom side to wash your hands. It’s not completely a turn off, but really not practical.
In addition, the closets are in the bathroom side so steam and water are in that area where you may hang your suit or dress. It would have made sense to have the closet doors on the other side where the bed is, not in the bathroom.

The Room – Bathroom and Closet
The bathroom had only one sink which is a bummer as the counter was long enough to fit two. Instead, they placed a lamp at one end which took up a lot of space. The hardwood floor has also seen better days as it was really warped and creaky, most likely from all the water over the years.
You do get a wide variety of amenities, a small safe, iron board, slippers and the ugliest bathrobes ever.
The Zenology soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner are really good quality. We have seen them in other Autograph Collection hotels such as The Pearle Hotel and Spa in Burlington, Ontario, Canada.

The Room Amenities
The slippers were of decent quality and I really liked the different heathered grey colour with blue trim. This really stood out as something different from the white slippers at every other hotel.

The desk in the far corner was really small as they fit a snack box (you have to pay for them), a Marshall sound bar, coffee maker, cups with coffee pods and teas, and the laughable power bar. As the room had no universal power outlets, we couldn’t charge anything. However, upon closer inspection, the Marshall speaker was using the European plug with a USB port. So we disconnected it and used that adaptor to power up all our devices.

Near the balcony was a single teal coloured chair with a coffee table. Next to the bed was a mini bar setup with some drinks as well.

Right near the entrance and just to the left of the water closet is a beverage and fridge setup. You do get a hot water kettle, more glasses and a mini fridge here which is handy.

The Room Balcony
Not many hotel rooms offer a balcony so this was quite a nice surprise. We also faced the street which we could see Pg. de Gracia and just across was the roof top of Casa Mila. We were on the 6th floor at room 607 so we had this view but other rooms would not probably be able to see the Casa Mila.

Sir Victor Hotel Gym & Spa
The gym and spa are located on Level 1 which is like the 3rd floor. It is situated right off the corner of the building overlooking Pg. de Gracia. It’s such a prime spot in the building that we were surprised they didn’t utilize this spot for a restaurant or cocktail bar.

Sir Victor Hotel Rooftop Bar and Pool
On the top Level T is the rooftop bar and pool. At this time of the year (March), they close at 10pm. They probably close later in the summer months but you can check it out when you are there. The pool was not huge but again, at least they have one and in the summer, it would be spectacular to beat the heat and have a view of Casa Mila from there.

Sir Victor Hotel Lobby
Unfortunately, we didn’t have much time to spend in the lobby and bar area to grab a drink or a bite to eat. However, it looked like a beautiful space to mingle and share good times with friends, even shoot a few rounds of billiards.

Conclusion
Despite the quirks of the room, we had a decent stay here. The room was nice and quiet, the bed was comfortable and the Zenology toiletries were great quality products.
We booked the room using Marriott Bonvoy points and paid on average of 46000 points per night. A pretty decent rate considering the costs of hotels in Europe.
