Plaza Premium Lounge at Rome Fiumicino Airport – Is This Really The Best They Have?

We were flying out of Rome heading off to Istanbul on Turkish Airlines Business Class. We got complimentary access with our business class seats to the Plaza Premium Lounge located on the second level. To get from The St. Regis Rome to FCO it is a flat rate from the taxis at 50 Euros, in fact, anywhere from central Rome is a flat rate. If you are going to the cruise port of Civitavecchia from Rome, it is 125 Euros flat rate. However, for this review, we are going to focus on the Plaza Premium Lounge and find out if this lounge was any good.

Plaza Premium Lounge Location

The Plaza Premium Lounge is located on the second level, so you can take either the elevator or escalators up. Most likely, you won’t even see it as you pass through duty free shops and continue along and then realize, hey, where is the damn lounge? Then you’ll remember, oh yeah, they said it was on the second level, so you start to look for an escalator and then you see one further up and then don’t realize you have to basically walk back to the beginning to get to it.

The official address is: Leonardo da Vinciโ€“Fiumicino Airport, Area E (Upper Level), Terminal 3 Extra Schengen Departures, Via Leonardo da Vinci, 320, 00054 Fiumicino RM, Italy

Plaza Premium Lounge Seating

The Plaza Premium Lounge itself was decently large with many different types of seats to choose from. In the center of the lounge was the bar area where you can order coffee, liquor, wine and other drinks on one side and grab some food on the other side of the bar. For the seating, they have lounge chairs, cubicles, restaurant style seats and more.

Plaza Premium Lounge Food

The food here was separated in two areas. You can get hot food along the wall which had eggs, hashbrowns, beans, sausages, hard boiled eggs and more. None were particularly appetizing or ground breaking in terms of offerings or taste.

Also near the hot food area was a single coffee machine, soft drink and water dispenser. It was in such a tight corner along with all the cups and teas that you basically had to wait all in single file for each person to finish making their coffee/tea and move out of the way.

At the bar, you can get pastries, donuts, cake, salad, cereal, yoghurt, bread, buns and fruit. Again, they have it, but none of it was particularly outstanding.

Conclusion

We have to say, this lounge did not tick the boxes for us. It was uncomfortably warm in certain areas of the lounge, the food offerings were not that great and the coffee machine placement and lineup was just ridiculous. The good thing was that you could strike up a conversation with other travelers over how bad the layout was and kill some time.

The washrooms were not the cleanest either and the shower areas as far as we could see looked kind of dingy. I certainly wouldn’t want to be bare feet in there at all.

How this is the World’s Best Independent Airport Lounge by Skytrax vexes us. If we had to rate this lounge, it would probably be about a 2.5 out of 10.
