SWISS Business Lounge E, Zurich Airport – Eat, Drink, Sleep and Shower in Comfort!
On our way to Barcelona from Toronto, we had a pretty long 7 hour layover but we thought we could take this opportunity to check out a couple of lounges in Zurich Airport. Our plane arrived at the E Gates and the lounge was not far from our gate. You can take the stairs or the lift up to the second floor where the lounge resides.

Once you check in, if you are looking to take a hot shower, best to book ahead as we had to wait about 20 minutes and 45 minutes respectively. They give you one of those vibrating coasters to let you know when it is your turn.
Once you enter the lounge, you will immediately see a nice seating area with great views of incoming planes as the runway is just in front with gates below the lounge.

Reading Materials
You are also greeting with a wall of magazines for your reading pleasure, as long as you read Swiss! I thumbed through a few of them and none were english.

Salad and Drinks
The wall immediately to the right of the magazines had a nice array of drinks, even full sized drinks that you can take with you.
From left to right, you had cereals, nuts, a salad bar area, beer and soda fountains, wines, hard liquors and refrigerated bottled drinks along with fresh orange and tomato juice. I must say that the hard liquor was the winner here as I had to wait a long time to finally get no people in the way to take a picture!

The Food
Just around the corner was the hot food and breads. There were choices of bread, rolls and a plain croissant today. For the hot food, they had penne pasta, mash potatoes, and two types of what I want to call pizza but different. I’ll let you decide what they are from the pictures below.
For dessert, they had some sort of fudge with pineapple topping, cream puffs and a marble pound cake.
In addition to the drinks they had earlier, you could choose from an array of different coffees from the Franke coffee machine. There were about 30 different choices including iced coffees. They also had a nice selection of teas from Sirocco Tea Journey.

Relaxation Room
If memory serves me correct, there were 7 somewhat private cubicles where you can lean the chair back into a lie-flat position. 3 in the front wall and 4 near the back wall. We choose the ones near the front, however, in hindsight, the back ones provide less light as the windows were wide open and the sunlight came right in. Not to mention that people on the terrace could be right in front of you as you try to take a cat nap.

Work Area
If relaxing isn’t your thing, then you can visit the Work Area and get that spreadsheet done. There are cubicles with and without computers. They aren’t huge or that private but you’ll have a corner to concentrate.

Washrooms
I’m not one to usually take pictures inside washrooms but it was empty and I have to say, these washrooms were really nice and clean.

Display Area
The SWISS Business Lounge dedicates a raised area to showcase their wares. There were Sirocco Tea Journey, perfumes, pens and watches in the glass cases for you to admire.

Seating
The SWISS Business Lounge has multiple areas and multiple types of seating for you to enjoy. Whether at the bar stool area, lounge chairs, or dining, they have you covered. Not only that, there are multiple power sockets with universal chargers at every seat. Even in the eating area, the power sockets are uniquely placed behind your butt but off to the side so that you can power up all your devices while you enjoy your meal.

The Terrace
If you really like to watch planes, the terrace is a fantastic area to view the planes. You can also get fresh air or sniff in those airplane fumes, your choice. The terrace is quite long and wide so you will not feel cramped here. It also lines both the North and South side so you can choose which side you want to enjoy.

The Shower
As we had a red eye flight and we landed in Zurich in the morning. We had some time to kill, so why not take a shower? The room was pretty large but there didn’t seem to be a lot of them, perhaps 4 or 5. My better half had to wait only about 20 minutes but I had to wait about 45 minutes to get one. There was a small bench there which you could set your suitcase on and make it easier to get your things, small things like these make a world of difference!

Conclusion
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the SWISS Business Lounge E. We spent about 4.5 hours here, eating, snacking, napping, plane spotting and even showering. The food was decent, nothing spectacular but it’ll fill your tummy and it tasted good. The drink selection was excellent as most people went straight to the hard liquor. The coffee’s were good too with a wide variety of choices.
We did take a nap for almost 2 hours in the Relaxation Area, it was quite quiet even though there was no closed door. After this lounge, we did go over to the SWISS Business Lounge A, you can read that here, which was crowded, darker and smaller. Come back to read on that lounge soon.
