Milan, Italy – The Duomo Is Incredible
We flew into Milan in the third week of August from Athens, Greece. It was still hot, but not like Athens, so about 30-32 degrees Celsius. Milan was absolutely beautiful, the Duomo is the main attraction and when you see it in person, you can see why. It was absolutely stunning and huge. We’ve been to the Sagrada de Famalia in Barcelona and Notre Dame in Paris, but this cathedral is breathtaking. The detail of it all and the size is just hard to fathom that people built this structure. When trying to take a picture of the front you just have to keep walking back and back to fit it on your camera. I’ll have a separate article on just this structure to follow, including where and how to get tickets.

Once we got into Milan from the airport (MCO), we took the Malpensa Express to Cadorna Station and then a quick taxi to our hotel, The Palazzo Matteotti, The Dedica Athology, Autograph Collection. Our hotel was so central that it was a quick 5 minute walk to the Duomo with restaurants, shops, souvenirs, museums and more shopping all around. There’s nothing you can’t find, including bottles of water at the ODS store (go to the downstairs to find the beverages), another grocery store just next to the entrance of the Galleria and even food/beverage trucks parked just outside the Duomo.
The Galleria was a beautiful structure and the oldest shopping mall in Milan. It hosts high end brand names although not all of them due to the small size and the fact that the main shopping street about 10 minutes away has all the brands as well as a Global Blue tax refund center on Via Santo Spirito (North side).

Now, being in Milan, how can you resist gelato? We couldn’t! We had our fair share but we still think that Venice has the best Pistachio gelato in all of Italy. Look to spend about 3.50 – 4.00 Euros for two scoops depending on where you are in Milan.

How can you not also get a good cup of coffee in Milan? LavAzza has their flagship store just behind the Galleria. We loved the coffee so much there and have a tip for you so look for my next article on LavAzza. Located at Piazza San Fidele.

Right near the Cadorna Station is the Castello Sforzesco. There’s a museum there and a huge park behind it. We walked around quite a bit through the park, some great picture taking spots especially from the front of the Castello.

Check out the Lego rendering of the Duomo, it was pretty darn impressive as it must have been 6 feet by 3 feet and about 3 feet tall!

Tip: With so much to see and do, give yourself minimum 3 days. You can even spend a day going to the Outlet Mall, we heard Serravalle had the best designer brands, unfortunately, we didn’t go ourselves although we should have.
