Vedema, A Luxury Collection Resort, Santorini, Greece- The Luxury Collection Hotel

We were lucky enough to find a 5 day block to book this hotel. As only 1 of 2 hotels on the island of Santorini through Marriott, we knew that staying here would be a great choice.

We took a short flight from Athens to Santorini (about 50 minutes) in the evening. By the time we landed it was actually dark. We took a taxi to the hotel, 25 Euros and about 20 minutes, of winding roads to get to the area of Megalochori where the hotel resides.

We were greeted by the staff and got our room which was very close to the road, in fact, it was just above the road and the loading bay. The room itself wasn’t too bad with a lower sitting area and then a few steps up to the bed and washroom. Now, taking into consideration that this hotel was the first 5 star hotel in Santorini, it is not a new hotel with new fixtures. Every room at Vedema though is a suite and they are larger than your average hotel.

We were a bit jet lagged as we just flew in the day before so we walked around the grounds which were stunning at night. The main pool was pretty big and you can enjoy your breakfast there every morning.

We walked into the main lobby of the hotel again to be greeted by Michalis and Apostolis. These two gents were the kindest guys and Apostolis heard that my wife couldn’t sleep so he went out and made her a chamomile tea.

The hotel grounds are immaculate and situated on a vineyard where you can take a complimentary wine tour which lasts about 45 minutes. Just ask reception as to when it will be.

Unfortunately, our room being so close to the road and loading bay, it was very loud when motorcycles raced up the street just 10 feet from our window. We ended up getting moved to another room a day later which was just as big but had Internet trouble with a router. Luckily, Apostolis was a tech guy and spoke to the IT guy on duty to help get this resolved. The customer service that this hotel provides is superb.

Just a minute walk from the doors of the resort is a street with three restaurants. You can definitely enjoy the atmosphere of relaxed vacationers from all over the world and strike conversations with other tables. Enjoy good meals with good prices here.

For breakfast, although about a 10 minute walk, is a nice bakery where you can get fresh pastries and coffee.

We mentioned the grounds being so beautiful for this resort, however, it is a bit away from the main town of Thera (Fira). You will have to time everything as they do have shuttles to take you to Fira 3 times a day and back. If you can’t make the shuttle, you will have to take a taxi which would be roughly 10-15 Euros. Walking is not an option as it is a pretty winding road and no sidewalks.

We did get a chance to spend some time at the resort and relax by the hot tub area.

The wine tour was great as we got to go to the back area and see what makes Santorini wine unique.

We want to thank the staff at the Vedema Resort Santorini, they work incredibly hard every day for over 200 days straight. No weekends off or breaks. Thank you to Michalis, Apostolis, Tereza, Elfie, Liezel, Ershela, Yiannis, and Jimmy. A special thank you to Elias, the driver, who sits in the van for endless hours shuttling all guests to-and-from the resort, not an easy job.

Thanks
