Dubrovnik, Croatia – Home to Game of Thrones, King’s Landing

We couldn’t wait to get to Dubrovnik, Croatia to see the main setting of King’s Landing in Game of Thrones. As pretty big fans of the show, we got off our Celebrity Constellation cruise ship and hopped on the bus to take us directly to Old Town. The walls are the first thing you see and it’s definitely an impressive site. Imagine the manpower it took to build a fortress of this magnitude and especially during the 16th century.

There is definitely no shortage of souvenir shops of Game of Thrones, that’s for sure. There are so many types of mugs, key chains, playing cards and other items, it’s quite unbelievable. We have to say, the souvenirs are not cheap, you could spend a small fortune buying them. One store even had a area where you could go in and dress up in the outfits and take pictures.

To go up and walk along the Wall of Dubrovnik, it was about 45 Euros. Some said it was worth it, some said it wasn’t. We walked within the walls and found some great spots where you can duck out through a door and get on to a beach along the side of the wall.

Another great area was the pier area where you can get onto small boats and take a water tour. It was definitely worth it at around 15 Euros and lasted almost 60 minutes. They took us out to where you could see Fort Lovrijenac which is where the Iron Throne is located at the Great Hall of the Red Keep.

Right near the pier are some nice restaurants and if you walk along the right side you can take some great pictures right at the edge of the water.

The city is absolutely amazing, definitely a place to visit if you have chance. You can see why the writers of Game of Thrones choose this location.

It gets crowded here in Old Town during the summer, so much that it gets a bit hard to walk around. However, it’s a must to visit, especially if you are a Game of Thrones fan. Many places only accept Kuna, the Croatian currency. If you find stores that accept Euro, best to buy what you need in case other stores don’t.

Thanks
