Emirates 777-300ER Business Class – Ho Chi Minh to Dubai – An Older Plane but Great Food!
We haven’t been on Emirates for quite some time so we couldn’t wait to try it out again. We were on a Boeing 777-300ER which makes up the backbone of their fleet at 123 aircraft. Emirates is in the middle of huge retrofit which will see many of these aircraft get premium economy seats.
The 777-300ER is showing its age from the older style seats where privacy wasn’t a priority. However, it is what it is and we enjoyed the soft product more than the hard product on this flight.
The Seat
The seats were still decent though, fully reclinable to a completely lie-flat bed. However, one fault is that when the aisle person is fully reclined, it makes it difficult for the window person to get out and go to the washroom or stretch their legs as they have to climb over the other person.
The Cabin
There are overhead bins on both sides as well as the middle. It didn’t make the cabin feel claustrophobic at all. The ceiling also had lighting that made it appear like stars in the night.
Amenity Kits
The amenity kits come in two varieties, one for women and one for men. For the ladies, each kit features several Bulgari products, including the iconic fragrance BVLGARI OMNIA Amethyste Eau de Toilette. The scent opens with the bright and citrusy facets of pink grapefruit and green sap accords, while the heart reveals rich Damascena Rose Absolute, accompanied by a warm, woody trail where the sweetness of a heliotrope accord melts into the vibrations of solar wood notes. In addition, the kit includes Omnia Amethyste face emulsion and body emulsion to keep your skin hydrated, alongside a rich Bulgari lip balm, and some comfort essentials including a dental kit, double mirror made from a sustainable wheat straw material, deodorant, tissues and a foldaway hairbrush.
For the men, the fragrance included in these kits is BVLGARI POUR HOMME Eau de Toilette, a woody and floral musky scent in which notes of Darjeeling tea, water lily, and guaiac wood blend flawlessly to create a soothing effect. Bulgari after shave balm and body emulsion, alongside a Gillette razor, shaving foam, a dental kit, deodorant, tissues and a foldaway hairbrush made from sustainable wheat straw round out the kit.

Food
To start, we were served with a mocktail of Orange Fizz and warm nuts. The bowl was larger than other airlines and even had pistachios which was a nice addition. As this was a red-eye flight, they served the entree on one plate which was fine by us as it maximizes the time to get some much needed sleep before arriving in Dubai at 5am on this 7h30m flight.
Food wise, we both ordered the same things, our appetizers consisted of a very tasty Beef Pho which is a Vietnamese rice noodle soup topped with coriander and bean sprouts with a side salad and a bun. For our entree’s, we had the Vietnamese Prawn Curry which was served with steamed rice and sauteed vegetables. Both were super tasty but the winner was the Beef Pho.
For dessert, we both also opted for the Salted Caramel Cheesecake served with orange compote. My better half topped it off with a cognac, Hennessy X.O to be exact.

Conclusion
This 7h30m flight went by too quickly. Being a red-eye flight, we took off and soon after we were being served our delicious food. After eating, a good long nap was in order and then it was nearly time to land. The seats and privacy weren’t the best being an older design of the 777-300ER but that will soon change as they are slated to get retrofitted and then you’ll also have the option of choosing Premium Economy if you wish to do so.
