Air Canada 787-9 Dreamliner Business Class Review – Frankfurt to Toronto – How Does AC Signature Compare To the Best Airlines?
As this is our home airline, we have flown the 787-9 many times from domestic flights to Europe and even the Middle East. However, we have been underwhelmed lately with the catering on the flights. Will this one be any different?
Air Canada 787-9 – The Seat
The seat is a familiar one to us and one that is pretty comfortable and somewhat private, however, it is probably due for an upgrade in the upcoming years. Developed by Collins Aerospace, we hear the next generation of seats will have a door for more privacy as well as a host of new technologies.
Before you can plop your butt down, you will notice a mattress pad, blanket and pillow on your seat. You can always tell frequent flyers on board because they’ll just rip the plastic packaging right off the mattress pad and set it up before doing anything else. It’s almost like a ritual. As you wrap your seat up and take off your jacket, you’ll notice the mustard colour Acqua di Parma amenity kit. We were pleasantly surprised because out of all the flights we’ve taken, this is the very first time we got the full Acqua di Parma pouch. Every other time we’ve gotten the cheaper fabric pouches.
The seats are decent and even have a massaging function, although it only does the lumbar area and stays on for just a few minutes before you have to hit the button again. The tray table is large and slides down towards you from just under the TV screen. It then folds over to give you double the counter space. It is sturdy and good for you to do some work on with a laptop. To your side is a counter which is a decent size as I usually put my small backpack up there before we start pushback. There is also a cubby hole for you to put other belongings in like your mobile phone, passport, etc.
Air Canada 787-9 – Service
Normally, we wouldn’t dive so much into the service of a flight but I have to say this one surprised me. I could hear the Purser of the flight talking to other flight attendants, you can hear that she was the one in control and she made sure of it. I thought to myself, wow, we got a ball buster on this flight. She was stern and talked with an authoritative voice, you knew she in charge and no BS was going to get by her.
As the flight went on, she took meal orders and made chit chat throughout with each and every passenger. She was an absolute delight to speak to and you could tell she took pride in her job. You could also tell that the safety of the passengers and her crew were her top priority. Carrol was her name and she deserves all the praise and made our flight one to remember, not in a bad way, but a positive one which is even harder to do when you serve 3-4 long-haul flights a week and meet hundreds of people. So kudos to Carrol for making this flight such a great one for us!
Air Canada 787-9 – Lavatory
The 787-9 up front doesn’t have the largest lavatory but it was kept clean and tidy for the entire flight. Oddly enough, this one didn’t have Molton Brown soaps and hand lotion but Edition Voyage. We do wish they would install a foot pedal for the trash bin lid.

Air Canada 787-9 – Food
We haven’t been that impressed on the last few flights of Air Canada with their food. However, today was much better. The appetizer was good, loved the pretzel and the main dish of beef cheeks with red wine sauce and mashed potatoes was super tasty and moist. This was probably one of the best meals that we have had on Air Canada. We can’t wait to see what the future holds when they introduce the “Book the Cook”.
Conclusion
This flight was an exceptional one in all aspects. The seats were comfortable, clean and came with the mattress topper which is always appreciated. The service, especially from Carrol, was above and beyond along with her crew. The food was excellent and much better than the past few flights we have had. There was even very little turbulence which always makes the flight more enjoyable.
Overall, an absolutely fantastic flight in every possible way.
