Air Canada Business Class Boeing 777-300ER Toronto to Zurich – Real Acqua Di Parma Amenity Kits!

In an unusual trip for us, we decided on heading to Europe in March, we usually would go when the weather was much warmer. However, off we went to enjoy a few weeks in Barcelona, then on the brand new Sun Princess (read review upcoming soon!), five nights in Istanbul, two more nights in Frankfurt before coming back home.

The flight this evening was on a Air Canada Boeing 777-300ER. Air Canada has 19 of these in their fleet with 2 different configurations. The business class seats are in a reverse herringbone with a 1-2-1 layout. As it was a night flight and we wouldn’t be able to see too much out of the windows, we stuck with sitting in the two middle seats. My seat for this flight was 5G while my better half was in 5D.

Air Canada Amenity Kit

The flight was on-time and we pushed back with little fan fair. Overall, the cabin was very clean. A mattress pad, blanket and pillow were on the seat greeting us when we arrived. We were thoroughly pleased to see the real Acqua di Parma amenity kits there as well! Finally, after many flights, it wasn’t the cheap fabric pouch ones that we received so many times.

Honestly though, the nicest thing about the Acqua di Parma amenity kit is the pouch itself! However, it does consist of an array of goodies:

  • Acqua di Parma Lip Balm – 3ml
  • Acqua di Parma Hand Cream – 10ml
  • Acqua di Parma Bag – 100% PVC
  • Eyeshade – 100% polyester
  • Socks – 99% polyester, 1% rubber
  • Glass Cloth – 100% polyester
  • Earplugs
  • Colgate Toothpaste – 5g
  • Toothbrush
  • Mouthwash – 14ml
  • Floss pick

Air Canada Food – Dinner

The service onboard this flight was polite and uneventful to say the least. Not too much engagement with the crew, but also, no complaints either with their professionalism.

I started off with some warm nuts, a Canada Dry and a cappuccino.

Air Canada Appetizer

The appetizer was a Mediterranean Mezze: Hummus, Loubieh Bi Zeit, Muhammara and Za’atar seasoned feta. It was served with a fresh seasonal green salad with your choice of vinaigrette and warm bread of your choice.

Air Canada Main Course

For the main course, you could choose among:

  • Green Curry Chicken
  • Roasted Cod Loin
  • Beef Short Rib Bourguignon
  • Eggplant and Zucchini Lasagna

I personally went with the Beef Short Rib Bourguignon which was pretty decent. The meat was soft and flavourful.

Air Canada Dessert

To wrap up the meal, I got both the cheese plate and the dark chocolate fondant. Both were good and I was pretty full after this 3-course meal.

Air Canada In Flight Entertainment (IFE)

As I fell asleep before we even took off, I couldn’t get back to sleep so I stayed up and watched a few movies. The IFE on Air Canada has always been decent. Movies are kept up-to-date on a monthly basis and they feature lot’s of themes such as James Bond movies, Fast & Furious movies, etc.

The flight map is also entertaining to watch if you really have nothing else to do. The headphones are also decent quality but I can’t use them for long as I get a headache from the over-the-ear type of headphones. Instead, I bring my own plug-in ones for trips. My better half has gotten used to them and enjoys them.

Air Canada Breakfast

Breakfast consisted of a parsley omelette, pan fried chicken sausage with hash brown potatoes. The sides consisted of fresh fruit, a croissant and yoghurt. Overall, it was just OK. The eggs were overdone and the hash browns were soggy.

Air Canada Signature Lie Flat Seats

The seats on Air Canada are a pretty decent affair. You don’t get a door, but the privacy is pretty good as you sit back into the pod and you cannot see other passengers. There are air vents above as well as centre and window above head storage. Everyone has enough room to store their belongings and often times, economy class items get stowed up here because they run out of room. There is even a massage function on the seat but it is really basic and last only a couple of minutes before you have to hit the button again.

As a side note, the window seats do get a bit more room along the side to put things on than the middle seats. With the partition in the middle, it does take up a bit more room. A couple of extra inches doesn’t seem like much but it does make a difference if you have a lot of gear.

Air Canada Flight Conclusion

Overall, it was a uneventful flight which is a good thing. The flight was 7h37m and being a night flight, you can usually get several hours of sleep after the dinner service. When you wake up, breakfast is served and you can hit the ground running in Zurich at around 10am.

We were laying over in Zurich for 7 hours before taking a Swiss Air flight for 2 hours to Barcelona. You can read that review here along with two lounge reviews in Zurich Airport.

Air Canada – How We Paid

We booked using Aeroplan points of 70,000 each and $130.00 in taxes and fees. As this also included the Swiss Air flight and Air Canada didn’t have a direct flight to Barcelona from Toronto at this time of the year, we thought this was the best option. We got lounge access in the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge in Toronto and then access to the Swiss Lounge in Zurich for the seven hour layover.
