Ketchikan, Alaska – Lots of Souvenirs Shops and Lumberjack Shows
This was the last port of call on our cruise so we got off the ship to do some exploring. The town was a decent size and had a good variety of shops from souvenirs, taxidermy, carved ivory woolly mammoth tusks, chocolate fudge to even Russian nesting dolls. It was a pretty rainy day so we had to try and duck in where we could so that meant we spent a lot of time in souvenir shops. We did buy a very nice Alaska – The Last Frontier soup bowl/mug.

There were three ships at port that day so it was pretty crowded on the streets with an influx of around 9,000 people in a town of 8,200 population. We tried to see if we could get tickets for a Lumberjack show, but it was sold out and they even brought in extra rafters. So we wandered around the town as much as we could but succumbed to the rain and decided to head back to the ship with our souvenirs.

On the ship, we have this area called the Skywalkers Nightclub which they have a movator that takes you up and to the back of the ship. It was super quiet at that time but gave us quite a nice view of the town as it was up on the 17th deck. We’ve been on other Princess ships and this was the only ship that had this Skywalkers Nightclub area. There’s basically no obstruction up here and the view is basically 360 degrees.

So although we didn’t get to enjoy the day in the sun, we got some nice souvenirs and a great view of the town with houses on top of a mountain hill that has a tunnel running under it.

Thanks
