Costa Maya, Mexico – A Great Port Full of Fun and Adventure

This was the first time we’ve been to Costa Maya, Mexico and it ended up being our favourite for this trip.  Once off the ship, you walk a bit along the dock and get into the port area.  Unlike other ports where you start to see all the same types of shops like Diamonds International, there weren’t any like that here.  Apparently, they built this entire port for the tourists with fun in mind!  There were shops but they were more like individually owned ones with hand crafted items.  There were people dressed up in Mayan type of outfits performing dances and the crowd really seemed to enjoy it.  Afterwards, they would pose for pictures on a Mayan structure with steps and yell out.

There was a pool with lounge chairs that people could enjoy (for a price of a drink) or sit at the tables and chairs where we had a scaly creature come up to us.  There were flamingos close by in a roped off area but you can get pretty good pictures of them.  There was even a tower which you can go up (I also think for a fee) and walk along suspension bridges throughout the compound.

The biggest attraction by far though was the Dolphin Discovery where you get to swim with the dolphins.  People get to do tricks with the dolphins, hug them, and even get pushed along by them when lying on a paddle board.

Around the pool area, we got free wifi so that was a bonus.  We got a couple of drinks, sat and enjoyed the sun while catching up on emails and posting to our Instagram account.  You can find us at #invisibletiger

If you have more time, you could take a shuttle bus or taxi to go downtown for about $4.00 USD per person.  We didn’t go and opted to relax instead at this nice port.

Thanks
