The St. Regis Singapore Hotel Review – Opulence with Classic Charm at a Decent Location
The last time we stayed in Singapore we stayed at The Westin Singapore near the Marina Bay area. We have to say, The St. Regis Singapore wins hands down. The St. Regis Singapore is situated near Orchard Road with an abundance of restaurants, malls and definitely no shortage of Starbucks near by. There was even a Hard Rock Café within a 5 minute walk which we were happy to get a pin to keep our collection going. We also dropped into the Starbucks and got the new Been There Singapore.
As we arrived early in the morning from an red eye flight from Istanbul, we didn’t know if we would get a room, however, the front desk was able to get a room ready within 20 minutes. As we opened the doors to our room, it was signature St. Regis style with classic furnishings, a large bathroom with separate water closet. The room itself was suite style with plenty of space and all controls at the touch of a button.

Although you can order complimentary coffee or tea, we found that the Nespresso machine made decent coffee too. Bottled water provided, you can use the water boiler to make a good cup of TWG tea as well. The fridge is located just below inside the console with a top pullout filled with snacks and mini liquor bottles and finally, on the right side a selection of glassware.

The controls to the room are a bit retro. On both sides of the bed, the nightstands have a flip out console (think of the James Bond car that changes license plates) that has all the buttons to control everything in the room. To be honest, I didn’t think they would even work but they all do!

With lot’s of storage space in the closets, you won’t have to worry about enough space. One is almost empty except for where they store the nicely padded slippers. The other contains the robe, hangers, laundry service, umbrella and luggage rack. Another closet has more shelves with the decent sized safe.

The St. Regis Singapore doesn’t skimp on the details, they even provide service to have 2 items pressed per day and your shoes shined. Stationery can also be found in the desk along with the universal power outlets and other connectors for the TV.

The bathroom was a good size with a tub, dual sinks, water closet for the toilet and a shower with a shower wand and rain shower head. Amenities are now using larger bottles for shampoo, conditioner and body gel. This seems to be the norm now as many hotels are trying to cut down on the amount of plastic being used for the smaller sized bottles. They also probably cost less to refill than purchasing all the small bottles. For this St. Regis Singapore, they use Sachajuan for hair products, Sodashi for the body and REN for the face. They were quite nice and if you do take them, they will charge you $60.00 SGD per bottle, so just be aware!

When you enter the hotel, you go through a short entrance and then you are greeted with an open seating area to the right, a raised ceiling in the middle and check-in desks to the left. The restaurant is straight ahead where you can dine for breakfast. There’s a small dessert counter to curb your sweet tooth or take home a tin or jar of cookies.

A beautiful staircase leads to the second level where the St. Regis Singapore can hold weddings, conventions and other large gatherings.

Unfortunately, by the time we ran around the town and got back, the pool area was already closed and the next day we were heading out early to the airport on our way to Shanghai.

The gym was a pretty good size and full of all the equipment you could ask for. It was super clean and the whole room looked in great shape (no pun intended)!

The hotel is not only impressive on the inside, it is an attractive building on the outside too. I don’t know about you, but hotels seem to look better at night when they are lit up and you see the logo against a dark background.

The St. Regis Singapore is not the most central location in my opinion. However, it is just at the end of the famous Orchard Road so you can stroll out of your hotel and make your way through the malls and attractions and restaurants. Interestingly, Orchard Road is a smoke-free road except in designated areas. It will take approximately 15 minutes and about $15 Singapore dollars to reach the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
PROS:
- Top notch service
- Excellent gym with an outdoor pool
- Fantastic body amenities in the bathroom
- Room was super quiet and bed was very comfortable
CONS:
- Location (in our opinion) was not the most central as we had to taxi in and out every time
- Most times there were only two people doing check-in and check-out which led to us waiting up to 10 minutes to ask for simple things
